How to remove creases from a leather bag
After a long wait, the moment has finally come to carry that leather bag you have kept in the wardrobe for months.
But there is a problem...
There are some really unsightly creases!
How can you remove them?
Before explaining how to remove creases from a leather bag, let me tell you something...
When we put a bag away in the wardrobe, there are a few precautions worth following.
Leather bags need support inside to keep their shape and stop them from sagging.
What can you use?
The most common and easy-to-find material for padding leather bags stored in the wardrobe is simple unprinted paper.
Be careful!
I said "unprinted" because printed paper, such as newspaper, can stain the leather or the inner lining with ink.
With this simple tip, the bag will keep its natural shape and you will stop those annoying creases from forming again.
If you want to know more about how to store leather bags in the wardrobe, I have dedicated a whole article to the subject.
Now let me explain how to remove creases from a leather bag.
All you will need is:
- a hairdryer;
- a neutral wax or leather cream;
- a cotton cloth, preferably white.
Once you have the items I just listed, follow these four steps.
- The first thing to do is take a hairdryer and set the temperature to a medium level. With one hand inside the bag, pass the hairdryer over the crease, taking care not to get too close. The heat will help the leather relax.
- Take a white cotton cloth and rub gently where the creases are. Thanks to the heat from the hairdryer, the leather will be more relaxed and the crease will tend to disappear.
- Finally, nourish the leather with a wax or cream made for leather, using a cotton cloth. This will properly hydrate the leather.
Warning! Many customers in my workshop who have a black bag have used a black cream...
Do you want to know what happened?
Many of them got black marks on their clothes!
That is why I recommend choosing a neutral cream, to avoid any risk.
- After applying the cream, wait about ten minutes before carrying the bag, so the cream can dry.
I made a video for you that shows step by step how to remove creases from a leather bag.
